W. Manning Art Studio: October 2011

Welcome to my blog!

This blog is not so much about chitchat as a chance to show some of the work I have done over the past few years. I am very glad to be back at art-making after a couple of decades of being too busy with job and children.

The early paintings I will show without much comment; later, when I am caught up, my current work may have some description.

Most of my paintings are landscapes and my usual medium is oil pastels. I love to paint en plein air (on location) and I also do instudio work.

I grew up on Prince Edward Island , with its rolling hills and intense colour (red earth, lush greens, sparkling seascapes, distinct seasons, lots of moisture in the air) and even in early childhood was fascinated with the effects of the ever-changing light and atmosphere on the landscape.

Most of the landscapes are of Prince Edward Island or New Brunswick, and are painted on location or from my personal photographs unless otherwise specified.

I hope you enjoy looking at my paintings. I certainly enjoyed painting them!
